We haven't blogged in a while!

Edvard Munch, 1893

Random minutae: Munch was Norwegian. As a Norwegian, I know that most Norwegians rarely get this emotional.
Do you think he was a parent of a child who was working on a MAJOR project for school?
or do you think that this was a portrait of the artist when he was a boy.....and it is his figurative memory of a time in school when he had a major, on-going project?
Can you relate to this painting at all?

  1. It's lookes like he on a walk with his parent and he remebered that he a a project due in two more day and he didn't even start on it.

    My connection
It's like i don't remeber about a projact and it's do tomarrow, then I go mad to finish the projact before bed time.

  2. It seems if he looks like he forgot to do something BIG.

    This sometimes happens to me.
    1) When I procrastinate.
2)In the morning right before I leave I check the homework page. The I see something I forgot to do. Then I get all stressed.

  3. He looks like someone who just realized that his Ancient Civ project is due tomorrow and his teacher specifically stated that if he didn't turn it in he would flunk.
    OR
It looks kind of like those people on the ABC shows where people randomly burst out of buses promising to give them thousands of dollars.

  4. I happen to think that he/she is shrieking because he had put off writing a big (HUGE) essay for college that without he/she would not be able to get a job. I can connect that to when I was doing a certain project in a certain not recent grade. I had done everything accept for one easy thing, and I put that one easy thing off until the last second and had to turn the project in 30 minutes late. My grade had to be dropped one.

  5. He looks like he is terrified because he is lost or something like that. It reminds me of a time when I was about 4 or 5 and I was with my mom in the store. I was waiting for her to finish choosing some clothes, but where was I? I was inside of the clothes rack ( it was a circle) hiding. My mom knew I was in there, but thought I was following as she was walking away. I was in there for about 30 seconds and then I realized she was gone, I then panicked and wanted to scream. I knew I could not because I was in the store. I wandered around the clothes isles looking for my mom, but did not find her until about 1 minute after I was "lost." I was 5 though, and do not hide in clothing racks anymore.

  6. I think he was with his parents and got lost, then remembers that he has a huge assignment due tommorow that he hasn't even started and he will have to be put back three grades if it is not perfect. He is worried more about getting home to do the project than getting reunited with his family. I can relate to this when I wait until I wait a few days before a project is due to get started and it is not as good as it would have been if I started it closer to when it was assigned.

  8. I think this poor kid was taking a walk on the Santa Cruz Boardwalk with his parents on a quick over the weekend trip. Finally, when he had to go home he remebers that he NEEDED to finish an important project. Otherwise, this unfinished project would not send him to Harvars(where he wanted to go for school). Sometimes, but rarely, I have sooooo much things to finish I can not work on a project in till the last dreadfull moments before the projest is due. Though, I can be willing to stay up all night to finish this project so it's nice and clean. I feel bad for the poor little kid who is walking on the Santa Cruz boardwalk on a Sunday night before a big project he had to do; was not finished :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

  10. It looks as though the author was talking a walk on the pier and just remembered he had a HUGE project due the next day. I can relate to this because i can remember times that i forgot about some huge assignments.

  12. This piece looks like someone that had a project due and they hadn't worked on it. Then on the last day they have to work on it befor it's due they finially START to work on the project. They end up stressing over it so much that they are literly screaming. This is what I imagain what would happen someone who put the AC off to the last minet

  13. It looks like he is stressed out. Like as if he found out what he thought was due tommorow is due today. I can relate to that because that is what happened to me this morning with the AC project.

  14. That reminds me of when a kid realizes that they forgot to do a part of their homework that was posted and they try and finish it and they don't get it done and then they get fusrated and then when they get to school and then they don't have anything to turn in and then yeah you get the point. I will admit thats happened to me also and it makes me feel like a bad student..... THAT'S NOT THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD

  15. He looks like, if he was in room 14, he still needs a lot to do of the Ancient Civilization report. I can relate because last night all I had to do was mount ny maps. That took waaaay longer than I thought. Sometimes, I just want to scream.(because of the stress)

  16. It seems as though it is a portrait of when he forgot something really major for a job, or school, or some other important event. I can relate to this painting since I have had my share of procrastinating moments. The day before any project is due, you might see that look on my face. Although, I must say, I have gotten much better at not procrastinating. Let's hope it stays that way!

  17. Well, it looks like either
    A) He had everything done for A/C except for mounting maps and he didn't do it until the last night. [I did that. I got home at 3:30 yesterday, started mounting everything, and next thing I know, it's 9:00 and I've only just finished.

    B) He wants to go to middle school, but he can't because his mom won't let him get the Tdap.

    C) He waited until the last night to do his Holocaust journal and project, and realized it's a lot more work than it seems.

A2) As he is about to finish mounting stuff at 8:30, he realizes his Technology and Art pages do not look like a hardworker has done them. He is forced to redo it.

  18. Okay, it appears Munch is on a long sailing trip and he just stepped on a porcupine, which made him think of quills, which made him think of pens, which made him think of writing, which made him think of a big project, which made him remember that he hadn't even started and it was due the day after the cruise ended. ALso, he just remembered that he left his report stuff at home.

personal connection: It reminds me of the time when I was pacing and stepped on a nail the exact moment I remmembered I had a big homework project due. The scream was really loud.

  19. I just realized that I meant to put Harvard not Harvas.

  20. Or better yet not Harvas or Harvars or any variation off THAT School/ word/ I don't really care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. It looks like Munch forgot something big. Something his parents would kill him for not doing. Well kill him figuratively. It could be something like he forgot to prepare for a HUGE or test or quiz etc.

It like that one time a forgot to take something valuable out of my pocket and it went thorough the wash and was demolished. I was sad and nearly screamed at my self, which made me trip and fall on our wood floor... It hurt. :(

  22. This reminds me of when I had a big assignment due the next day and I had about 3.5 hours worth of homework that night. So I was about to get started when I realized my text book was not with me. The picture is me when I was in that seen.

  23. This painting looks like some kid who's just la-de-da- walking down a boardwalk or bridge, on a Sunday night when all the sudden he rembers. A GIAGANTIC project is due the next day and he hasn't even started! He screams in terror, he knows that he will be in BIG trouble if he dosn't get it done.
This is rarley me on really big projects, even though I'll usaully be working on it the night before it's due. Sometimes I get really overwhelmed when I have a lot of things to do and I just feel like screaming.
I can somewhat relate to how the "screamer" feels sometimes. I think we all feel that way sometimes.

  24. Well, he looks like he had forgotten a huge project and he is freaking out. He has forgotten that it's due tomorrow and he hasn't done ANYTHING! SO then he gets in huge trouble and feels horrible. Just because he procrastinated. ( I have procrastinated before, but not to the extreme)

  25. If I thought I looked stressed out about the A/C it's nothing compared to him! I think the color usage is different the way it's in wet streaks. I think this gives a kind of crying look to it. I would be crying too if I didn't do anything for A/C until the night (or blotchy sunset) before

  26. I think that he forgot to study for the
S.A.T. and the test is tomorrow. Or he forgot to do a huge project that tacks three days to do and it is the night before it is due. Both of this things would help him get in to collage.

  27. This looks like Munch was on a vacation across the country over Christmas vacation, and just as he is about to start his big project, (he procrastinated- it's due tomorrow) he realizes that he let his flash drive with all of his work on it in his desk at school. He screams, them realizes that screaming won't help, it will just draw attention to himself, he screams again. (This time out of anger, not knowing what to do) He finally just decides that he will stay home sick until it's done. New dilemma: his flash drive is STILL at school. At this point, he just decides to face the music and go to school the next day, hoping that it won't affect his grade too much.

    Munch gets to school........
Teacher: "ok kids, I just want to remind you that your projects are due tomorrow."
Munch: **screams until he runs out of breath- then screams some more**

Point of this story: CHECK THE HOMEWORK PAGE!!!!

  28. I think he has been slacking and procrastinated a big project like the A/C and all of it is due the next day. He just remembered it was all due tommorrow and is really frustrated with himselves.I thought i was stressed .... look at him!

  29. It looks as if the boy in the painting, had forgotten something really important, that he couldn't fix.
I remember one day in 4th grade, where i had forgotten to do a very small part of a project, like Hope said, I had left my flash drive at school, and i didn't know what to do. I called every body i could, but no one picked up. So i finally retyped all of the things due the next day, and then i look in my backpack for my pencil, and there it is... Just sitting there... my flash drive. :)
I could imagine the character in this painting at the point that he remembered that he had forgotten his flash drive, or something of the sort, at school.
And that was the time that I left my flash drive in my backpack.

  31. It looks like he was walking along the side of a ship, and saw something scary. It could have been his teacher, no offense Ms. U, a man or woman with a weapon, or a pirate ship.

  32. What happens to a dream fulfilled?
Does it shine like the spotlight?
Or flow like a rushing river?
Does it dance like the stars?
    Or sooth a calling bird?
Maybe it soars like a skyward bound animal.
Or does it bring you to realize more that meets the eye?
