A Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park

 Diego Rivera
painted 1947-8

Today Ms Yamamoto introduced (or reintroduced) us to  DIEGO RIVERA. One of the murals depicted, or showed, Rivera as a little boy holding the hand of  Jose Posada, who was an artist he admired. Other people important to Rivera are also shown. This includes his wife, Frida Kahlo, standing on the right side as we look at the mural.

Dia de la Muerta is a Mexican holiday on which observers remember and honor people who have passed away.

IF you were going to paint a mural that included people who were important to YOU, who would you include? Feel free to tell us why, if you would like to do so.

  3. Well if it is El Dia de los Muertos I would want to invite all my deceased ancestors also all of my family and friends and neighbors. Traditionally I would invite my family anyway because I love them. I would invite friends because.... I don't know why actually. :) A comment on Diego Rivera: I love his unusual but realistic paintings. I have always wondered why he decided to paint random every life scenarios. May be it is what he saw on his walks or outside his window. Very unique.

  11. If I were to make a painting for El Dia De Muertos, I would include my mom, my dad, my brother, and my dogs. I would also have all my family on both my parent's sides, even if I never have (or will) met them. I would have friends around me, and everyone would be happy and jovial. [among their guests tonight :D]Balloons and party streamers would be everywhere, and food platters on tables around the outside.

  12. I would definitely paint my friends; I wouldn't be the person I am without them. Secondly, I would paint my beloved and long-deceased ancestors and pets, though I would paint my currently living fish, too. Thirdly, I would paint my sisters on their own to the side because they annoy me, but they've taught me an extremely important skill: Endurance. Finally, I would paint the rest of my family towards the center for their kindess.

  13. If I painted a mural with important people in it I would put my Mom Dad, and grandparents. I would also paint my brother, even though we don't get along he is important to me and I'm not going to admit anything else. I would have the setting outside of my grandparents house from my Dad's side of the family, because there have been so many important things that have happened there. I would also have my friends painted in the mural.

  18. If I were to paint a mural, I would have my Mom, Dad, sister, and some of my friends. I would also have Abraham Lincoln for what he did to end the civil war and free African Americans, otherwise some people might still hate them, and there might still be fighting.

  19. My mural would be vast. It would include my ENTIRE family, dead or alive. It would also have George Lucas, John Williams, and Einstein off to the side, for while I do not know them personally, they are my role models. Mr. Hull and my friends would also be in it, as well as Mrs. U, Corey Dobbins(my guitar instructor).

  21. If I would paint a mural, I would and everybody I ever loved or cared about. Some are gone, while some are still here. People just don't realize how important the people are around you, otherwise you wouldn't be you....if that makes sense.... Somehow I would incorporate that into my mural. So I would add family, friends, etc.

  22. If I were to create a mural, I would definetly include my faamily, related and extened, man or animal, because they inspire me to do brilliant or strange things. I would include some of my favorite authors( Stroud, Collins, Jaques, Riordan, Westerfield) in the middle ground because they aspire me to not only write better, but to aim higher. And in the background, with no one noticing them, I would include people I dislike( no one in Room 14 :), no names) as a reminder to not be like them.

  26. If I were to paint a mural I would include my parents, sisters, brother, my cat, grandparents, deceased grandmother, my best friends, and my 7 favorite teachers. (Including Ms. Ullner!) And of course there would probably be others I would want to incoorperate into the mural. All, well, most of these people I not only look up to, but have the most fun with in my life. My parents....well, are parents that care for me and love me and are always right there for me. There are actually times when I look at my sisters, so that's a good thing.:) Then my grandparents are the people that have inspired me to do great, but in a really deep way. My grandparents on my mother's side have taught me that you need to work hard wherever you are, because not a lot comes easy in the real world. My other grandmother, who has passed, has encouraged me to read and write. Sometimes, there would be about 30 people in her house for a celebration, and she would take me up to her bedroom and we would read my favorite books. My other grandfather has showed me that even if you have to work really hard at times, it's ok to sit back and relax when its' all over. My friends are the greatest friends in the world, and my 7 favorite teachers know how to make absolutly anythink in the world fun. So, after a long explanation, these are people that make me happy to be where I am now.

  29. If I were to paint a mural, I would include my family, friends, and my grandpa who past away two yrs ago. I would have my grandpa in the mural because he taught me everything that I know about baseball. He would tell me to follow through on my swing, and to grip the ball with two fingers. Anyway, the person that I would have to put in my mural would be my grandpa.
