Comment on how the film, the heroes of the Holocaust activity, your book, or/and " In Germany..." will change how you will act or how you see the world.
All three things taught me that I shouldn't take for granted the wondrful things I have and the wonderful friends and family I have. I will always try to stand up to someone who is being a bully to other people.
The film helped me see just how horrible the concentration camps were, because you can actually see one on video. It is amazing that The Devils Arithmetic was a mild Holocaust movie; I don't think I would want to see a movie that is not mild. The In Germany poem helped me understand that if you don't speak up when someone is getting "bullied", no one will speak up for you when/ if you get bullied. If you see something being done that you know is wrong, it is important to speak up.
All of the activities we did made me learn that everyone should respect each other and is important to listen to each and every one of them. Standing up for someone is very important because if it was me, I would like someone to stand up for me. Little things turn out to be big things to someone else in a long run.
Like Emily said from all three I learned that I shouldn't take the people and the things I have for granted and I also learned something else that stand up for what you believe in and help others, and don't just stand there when something is happening to them.
All of the research, the movie, and poem have changed everyone into better people. I find that all of it has changed my perspective of the world. I learned that no matter what is going on in the world, there are always going to be a few people who will always help others.
What I learned from the three things is not to take things for granted. To be thankful of what I have. Also, if I see people getting bullied, I will stand up for them to try to make a difference.
I learned from the poem especially, that if someone is being bullied, if they are not stood up against, then the "bad guys" will just keep coming back. If someone stands up for the person being bullied, not only can they stop, but they may be able to get the bullies to stop completely. There will always be people antagonizing others, and hopefully, there will be the few that try to their fullest to stop it.
I learned from the poem and the Devil's Arithmetic. From the poem ..... I should step to help people who are in trouble or people that just need a helping hand. Also, you should not judge people by their ranking in school, race, religion, or personality. From Devil's Arithmetic........ I should be glad that I was not a Hebrew in 1930's-1940's. I should also be glad with what a have and are able to do. I know that many people do not have as much "stuff' as I do and they should also be happy with what they have. If someone is needy and someone has alotof "stuff" then they should share. That is what I got out of the Devil's Arithmetic and the "German Poem" :).
What I learned is that at the time people probably didn't think too much about banding together so there wasn't much thought except i you were being taken away. Also it's not necessarily people were being selfish because it was them against a massive country that was taking over Europe at the time, even though some people could have done a bit more than they did. It also helped me understand the actual pressure they were put under to know if the Nazis were coming for them next.
Overall, I learned that I shouldn't take things for granted. I should be happy for what I have and to be gratefull for it all. Also, I learned that I should stand up for people who are being bullied. I think if I was in trouble then I would want people to stand up for me, then everybody should do the same for each other.
Through watching the Devils Arithmatic, reading the poem "In Germany", and researching The Heroes of the Holocaust made me look and think about things differently, by making me realize how big of an impact one decision can make. When many witnesses of the Holocaust just stood there watching passively,it made me realize that a large factor of why the Holocaust was able to happen was beacause people didn't stand up for the Jews and didn't care since it wasn't them being killed. One decision can also make a good effect like when some heroes of the Holocaut took in Jewish children and adults into their homes and hearts. I've learned that in the future i should make good decisions because one decision can make a big difference.
I learned through the poem and the movie to stand up for people in distress. Standing up to bullies or other people is the right thing to do, because if you don't stand up to them who will? The person would probaly get away with it and won't stop until stood up to. I learned that it is important to help others, because if you were "in their shoes" you would want someone to help you too. If you don't help and just watch as others are made fun of or treated unfairly, when they come for you no one would be around to hear your plea.
Watching the movie "Devil's Arithmetic" in class made think. I noticed that nothing, as good as it might be, is forever. You must make the most of your life. I learned that I can never take anything for granted, especially your family and friennds.
I learned that it was more wores then I was thinking about. The jew just was sleeping on wood. The sick would have to die, babys would be murdered, becuse they where not aloud in the camps. I know that I wount take thing for grannt.
From the Devil's Arithmetic I learned that bullieas and evil people if they are hurting someone. They need to stop and to stop them it is up to you, YOU have to stand up for people even if you don't know them.Bullies won't stop on their own people need to stick together and work to stop the evil things going on. Overall i learned if someone needs help, help even if the bully starts bullying you I'm sure someone would take after you and help you too.
I learned when we read the Germany poem that if someone is being bullied today, and you don't stand up for them, tommorow when you are getting bullied, no one is going to stand up for you. While watching the movie, I reminded myself not to take things for granted like family, food, or happiness. After waching the movie, I wondered how a "for adults" version of a Holocaust movie would make me feel like.
The poem made me realize you should ask yourself "what if that was me?" You would want other people to speak up for you, so maybe when you're being picked on, the person you stood up for will do the same.
Between the Devil's Arithmetic, the poem, and Heroes of the Holocaust, I learned that not only was it important for people to stand up to Hitler, but a HUGE feat.Since a lot of non-Jews just watched the others die in front of them, it is up to today's people to stand up for each other, learning from those before us. We can't take our family and friends for granted, especially since none of us in Rm14 have experienced the horrors of the Holocaust, and don't know what it's like to lose so many people that we love. More people could and should have stood up then, and people should stand up for each other today, because I know I will.
All of them really changed me. It's really hard just to watch the movie. When Ms. Ullner said that was mild, I couldn't believe it. It really changes me just to think that people could really be that cruel for power. My mom and I were talking about it last night and she said everything people do either has to do with money or power. It really change the way I think. The poem also changed me. It told me that if I stand up for someone that I could help them. That is not just helping them, but it would make me feel good inside. In the future I will stand up for anyone, unlike the people during the Holocaust. THe research we did for the Heroes of the Holocaust helped me realize that there were some people who helped out the Jews. THank Zeus they did!!!!!!!! So thank you Heroes , we reallly appreciate you! :)))
