Here a THEME, there a THEME, everywhere a THEME THEME


Identify a GENERAL theme or two you've found in a movie, TV show, novel, or play. Remember that one work can contain more than one GENERAL theme.

Let your fellow blog readers know the title of the movie, show, novel, or play and the theme(s) you've identified. It would be really helpful if you briefly described the part(s) that led you to identify this theme.

    I watched Big a 1988(I think) movie with Tom Hanks.

    The themes were love and some good vs. evil.

    The love one was because at the beginning a boy wished to be big and over night he turned 30. He falls in love with a girl and wants to stay 30. Because he falls in love, the good vs. evil comes in. The woman broke up with a man to get with Tom Hanks. So the guy(evil guy)gets mad and starts trying to mess up the guy and get him fired. At the end the 30 year old man wishes to be 9 again.

    In a book by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson called Peter and the sword of mercy, the theme is mainly good verses evil. The plot isn't very twisty or complex, but basically, in this interesting twist on the fairy tale, Peter Pan has to stop the shadow creature Lord Ombra from stealing a powerful weapon and destroying the world. Heard that one before, eh?

    In the movie Step Up, the theme is faith and love. Tyler (Channing Tatum) gets in trouble and has to do community service at MSA, an arts school. He starts dancing with a girl from the school and discovers that dancing is his faith. In the end, he falls in love with the girl and he gets transfered to the arts school to continue his passion.

    On the show Border Wars, the theme is good vs. evil because it is about trying to stop drugs from coming across the border. The good guys are the C.B.P. (California Border Patrol) and the bad guys are the drug dealers.

    In the Sorcerers Apprentice the theme is good vs. evil because Morgana is trying to take over the world and David has to stop her and her accomplices.

    In the book the hunger games, the theme is servival because the girl has to survive on her own in the wilderness with several other people trying to kill her. The only way to escape is to kill them or to let them kill each other.

    In Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie, the main theme is respect. Alex wishes that her parents never met. Her wizard powers kick in and make her parents have no idea who each other are. Alex finaly gets the spell reversed and learns how important it is to respect so nothing like this happens again.

    In the show Star Wars the Clone Wars the theme is good vs evil. Dukoo sends his assasin to kill a king while the jedi try to stop him from suceeding.

    In the play Fiddler on the Roof, the main themes are pride and family. In turn, the three oldest daughters in the "main" family want to be married. They all run into the same dilemma- they want to lead a happy life with the person they choose, but also want to be true to their family and tradition. They have enough pride in their family to try to appease their father's wishes, but also have enough pride in themselves to want to do as they choose.

    The Karate Kid
    I thought that the theme was obedience, because the main character, Dre has to learn to obey his Mother and Mei Ying. After listening and obeying his guardians he learns karate.

    In the movie The Sorcerer's Apprentice the main theme is good vs. evil. This is the theme because Dave and Balthazar are trying to defet the evil Morgana.

    In the movie Iron Man, the theme was good vs. evil as the rich and famous weapons developer is captured by terrorists and builds a super armor to defend him and his country

    In the sixth Harry Potter movie, the main theme is good vs. evil. SPOILER ALERT DON'T READ ON IF YOU HAVE'NT READ THIS BOOK YET! Dumbledore and Harry must wheedle away the potion master's memory, and put the information to good use against Voldemort.

    In Old Dogs, the main theme would probably have to be loyalty. When a divorsed man bumps into his past wife, the man is told by the wife that she has to go to jail for about two weeks. However, the lady had two seven year old twins, which the man didn't know about, and is THEN told that he is the dad. When the original baby-sitter for the twins gets injured, the man offers to watch the kids, despite all the bumps in the road that the future will bring. Therefore, the man was very loyal to his past wife and the kids to be able to take up such a commitment.
