Veterans' Day 2010

VETERAN'S DAY 2010
Bravery doesn't mean you aren't scared. It means you go anyway.
In Honor of US Servicemen and women, serving now or in the past, please take a few minutes to watch one or more of the videos in this playlist. Then comment on video(s) and/or how the above quote relates to Veteran's Day.
Also, what is ONE thing you can do to honor their service? Fresno's full of veterans and military families! Two classmates are in the Vet's Day parade. Another one has interviewed a family member for our Veteran's Day quilt.

  2. That quote is SO true. Once I said, "No one's fearless. Some people just face their fears," or something like that. Anyway... this Veteran's Day you can give a gift to every veteran you know. It doesn't have to be very big, just something meaningful.

  3. Those videos all do a great job of thanking our American veterans. I especially like the one at the airport where the veterens enter the terminal and everyone starts clapping. I also like the one with the various people thanking the veterans for different reasons. I think the quote means that people who go fight are very brave. To honor them we can go to parades, donate to a fund for veterens, or support them in other ways.

  4. I saw many videos and some of them actually made me want to cry......I saw Remember Me, I will Remember you, and about four others. I am glad that in one video a billionaire decided to thank the veterans by letting them stay a while at his giant 4 star hotel. After watching these videos, including the one on the homepage, I realize that veterans really DON'T ask for much, sometimes they don't even ask for a "thank you." The quote above is so very true. One video had many veterans say how scared they were to fight, but they went out there anyway. They didn't ask for anyone to say "I'm so proud of you, you out there and fight!" They just wanted to protect their country. The least we can do as a community is go to a parade like and Andrew said, or I'm going to try to talk to my grandfather to see what his experience was like in the Military. It would only be right for us to give thanks.

  5. When I first thought about war as a littler kid, I thought we fought to fight. Whoever wanted and liked to fight, did fight henceforth going into the military. Now I know people in the military fight, not fight, but fight for no more war.

  7. I love that quote! It is soooo true. Everyone is scared to serve in the army, but it's the people who face their fears and step up that deserve to be honored. One way we could honor these people is to turn in veteran's quilt squares so everyone can honor those certain people.

  8. I love thought full and meaningfull qoutes, like this one. I am thankful for these people who help us but I would not really want to join either. These people can face their fears and serve for us. I would really want to honor and to get to know all the people taht serve. They should have some very interesting stories to tell. Thank You to all that have served and those who are serving, you are extraordinary and brave people. That is one reason I Love The World;)

  10. War is a terrible thing. The people who go into it are truly brave. War is fought for many reasons. Disagreements. Freedom. Power. The vetran's truly are dedicated to their cause, and belive what they are doing is the right thing to do. instead of justhonoring U.S. vetrans, we should honor all vetrans, off all countries, ethniciteies, for standing up to serve their countries cause.

  11. I'm commenting on the quote I think this quote is amazing it's telling you the even though your brave your not scared but you still go, which is showing a sign of bravery. You could be thinking I'm not scared but I'm going to go even if it means I might lose my life.

  12. I saw the video where the multy billionare gave the troops a place to stay and be pampered. The man is correct, we don't thank the troops enough. It was very touching.

  13. I like how the quote described what bravery was. It was being scared, but doing it anyway for a good cause. I agree with Ethan that we should give all of the Veteran's that we know a small, but meaningful gift.

  14. Veterans should be honored, and they are not honored enough. Sometimes, a simple thank-you is not even given to those who have risked their lives for our country. They are fighting for OUR well-being and putting their life in jeopardy, and they need to be recognized and appreciated. As scared as they may be, they go anyway.
We can thank them in many ways, one of them being as simple as an "I'm proud of you" or "Thank You."
They are brave. They have courage. They did it for us.
    Thank you Veterans.

  15. First of all, I'm glad Veteran's Day even exists. It breaks my heart that people died fighting in a war. The quote, as everyone said, is very true. Watching some of those videos is heart wrenching. But, every single one of those people were proud to fight for their country. No matter what the hardships were, they fought. For our family member who lived through those times in our history, I know they will have a flag up in front of their house, or SOMETHING that honors the Veteran's who dies and survived this war.

  16. Ithink it was nice and showng appreciation how the billionare veteran made that luxury hotel for wounded veterans.Veterans should be appreciated and thanked because they fought for this country. It is very brave that people go to war and get wounded or even die.It is definitly scary to go to war and fight and thinking you could lose your life.Veterans should be appreciated,I for one appreciate veterans.

  17. I really appreciate what the people who are serving in the army or marines etc. are doing for our country. I appreciate how they fought and will always fight for our freedom and happiness. I feel that we should never feel sorry for ourselves because we ahd them to fight for us and people in Iraq and India don't have the protection we have.

  18. I watched the video where all the troops walk into a mall and everyone gets up and claps for them. It was really touching and it shows how we need to give respect and honor to our troops. The quote means that if you are brave you can still be scared, but you still go do what you have to. I thimk one to help the troops are to go help pack meds and other things to send to the troops.

    THANKS

  19. Wow... I agree with Gisel, veterans don't ask for much but they do so much for us. Now I wish I could go to the Veteran's Day parade, but I'm going to be out of town.:(... I think the quote and the little picture both go with Vet's Day because they are really scared to go and fight, but they are brave enough do it for our country.

  21. I thought the videos were very touching... I felt like I was going to cry during some parts. All of the quotes are totally true, too. Veteran's deserve way more celebration! They should make it Veteran's Week!!!! Also, Veteran's Day should be called Armistice Day.(11:11:11)

  23. I love that quote. It is so true. I was brave to ride my bike when I was little, and I was still scared to do it. The same with jumping off a diving board, and ice skating, and roller skating, and I was still scared to do it. But I went anyway.

  24. I watched the "veterans boeing comercial", it seemed very sad and unwelcoming. I noticed that everyones faces were half shaded without light. That made it look sad. It told how they came to serve in wars. All of the different people were had served in different areas. They seemed glad to be home from war.
