If someone, or a group of people, wanted to duplicate the results of Orson Well's broadcast, how could they accomplish it in 2011? Where would they do it? What might they do?
Everybody anywhere could be saying the same thing so eventually everyone would beleive that whatever people where saying was happening was actually happening. They could instant-publish magazines and newspapers (sort of like what happened after the Giants won the world series.) and very soon everybody would believe that the earth was under attack or whatever was supposedly happening to the planet.
Um... I think it could bw done in Area 51 where supposedly people have seen UFOs. Since, only police can acess that area, many people would not see what's happening. Then policemen, firemen, and reporters can be outside of the area and be broadcasting reports with news. I think it would work... Then the policemen and firemen and reporters would all act dead because they were "killed by aliens" and so many people would be frightened. There would be actor witnesses and fake photos. The whole thing would be crazy. Soon, the "aliens"( robots that were made by top secret people in Japan) would move along to California, then to Arizona, then to etcetera etcetera. The robots will SAFELY destruct bildings and places, but wouldn't hurt actual people. Anyways I think I over thought this but there.
I think it would be a little bit more difficult to convince people aliens are attacking New York now than it was in 1938. People just don't seem to believe things like this, probably because many American societies have been tricked like this as a joke. But I suppose if someone were to duplicate the broadcast they would have to get a lot of other broadcasting stations in on it to make it convincing. Someone could easily make a fake video and post it to your Facebook talk about it on twitter and send the video to the local and if they are feeling daring the world news. It would, of course not convince everyone but if one were to stick to it until it got out they were lying it would be pretty convincing. Also if some people were "mysteriously disappear" and some people may pull off some stunts involving explosives and abandon building a radio broadcast system could actually keep this stunt going for weeks maybe even years.
As Duncan said, it would work best on December 21, 2012. However, it would have to be on several news channels and use some pretty realistic greenscreen technology. There would have to be 'raw'- or in this case, cooked- footage and images. If the videos were extremely realistic and went viral, there would be a chance of tricking the population. Perhaps if some of those government UFO's were to come out of hiding right about then, that would definitely help.
I don't think America could be tricked by another radio broadcast. It's not logical. There's enough people that won't the broadcast and will convince others. Plus. It could take years of Prep time.

I think it would be very difficult to accomplish the feat of tricking America. The main reason: technology has advanced to the point were it is hard for one to be superstitious. When you think of the latest video games and movies, you will see that graphics and illusions have come a long way since 1938. If we as a civilization are able to pull this off, then I would think Americans would become suspicious right away when the news are talking about how aliens have come to take over the world. I will admit that I believe that somewhere in the universe there are other life forms, such as plants, but even if America is suddenly in panick because of "aliens" that land in a huge city, I would hope that I would tell myself that becoming dramatic is a waste of time. If this plan had any chance of convincing Americans that aliens invaded Earth, EVERY news station, radio station, news paper, magazine, and any other form of the current news would have to be involved.Obviously, this would be a challenge. My biggest worry would be that after most Americans discovered the trick, they would become upset with the government to allow such a chaos.(Not that the government would allow this.)This could cause a corruption in politics and could be a distraction to more important matters in the United States.(Such as the budget cuts.)Finally, the "aliens" would have to attack on a random day. I believe that if "aliens" landed in New York City on October 31, 2011 between 8 and 9 PM there would be less of a chance of people stopping to consider the idea of aliens. First of all, it would be in the same city at the same time as the "attack" in 1938. (This shows America that whoever planned the scheme tried to make their story realistic by over thinking. There were never aliens in 1938 so how could they arrive again?)Or, one could go with the shorter answer: Today, people are just not as gullable as they used to be.....period......
Ok, this is going to be elaborate. So, on 12/21/12, when any self respecting conspirast is on edge, all news channels get toghether and create an elaborate hoax. By taking film from classic alien and disaster movies and splicing them toghether with a reporter, then haveing the reporter "dying", you create the efects of realism. Then, by posting it on youtube and spreading it all over the web, you make sure everyone knows. Then, by taking the voices of several important people and scrambling them to make them say that aliens have invaded, you get political endorsement. Finnally, pay off a large number of people to run around screaming and alot of smoke machines, you create a realism factor, thus completing the illusion and causing mass panic.
The people would not be fooled by one radio. There needs to be multiple radio brodcasts, cnn news shows, and photo coppied images. They would have had to plan the sceme for many years. They will have to do it in a kind of popular side of the country.

People can make alien suits from reptiles' scales so it looks scaly.some can be smooth, and others can be rough for protection from predorters. Through out thes thing it may work.

They would also have to get wierd looking airplanes to fly aroung all across America to get people to think that it was truly happening. PS How would news crews even be able to get into Area 51. People who work there have to take a bus into the middle of the desert and get on a plane so that they can fly in. They do this so nobody can just stumble across classified government intel or maybe even alien bodies or spacecrafts!

But one could use TV, internet, radio, and so on, an they need every one in the TV news casts in America to be in on it. Therefore, DIFFICULT.
They could try to accomplish it by getting all the news and radio stations to have the same exact story. Nobody knows if it will work, but you could always try. I hope someone tries to do it, because we would be to smart to believe it!

Celebrities would have to also be twittering about it, and posting it on their fan-sites, blogs, etc. This way, many people would be seeing the same information. This should all be happening at a time in which the world is doing so poorly, that many people would believe it, just to have something to believe in. Many people would believe it, and though many would also doubt it, the mastermind behind this would have to rely on the believers to outnumber the non-believers.
To pull off what orson Wells pulled off would be extremly difficult. Every newscast and major newspaper would have to be in it. Only the most secret so noone would find out. It would have to take place somewhere there aren't al;ot of witnesses or people there.
To me they would have had to hire so many people to be actors and actresses for them. They would have scripts, and I'm pretty sure the people would be asking for a lot of money because they are talking about things they know definitely aren't true. Some of the actors and actresses would have probably been a small child when it happened. They would definitely need a big manequin and a lot of artists working together to make an alien. They would've had to pay a lot of money for someone to make them a UFO. They would probably choose certaain families to run across behind the reporter while it is happening with suitcases and one families bust open and the clothes and everything fall out but they would just keep running. They would also have to go through a lot of rehersals for it to be just perfect so people would believe it.
Well all of the news casts would have breaking news and report aliens landing in the middle of the ocean and use photoshop to alter pictures.
